Nigel wanted to reimagine a relatively small garden into a space that would remain enjoyable for many years to come. As keen gardeners, the priority wasn’t reducing planting—it was making gardening easier, more comfortable and better organised while creating a garden with greater character and flow.

The existing garden lacked structure and didn’t make the best use of the available space. The clients wanted a garden that would:

  • Create a stronger sense of journey through the garden.
  • Introduce a long-lasting patio for relaxing and entertaining.
  • Provide raised planting areas that were easier to maintain.
  • Future-proof the garden by reducing bending and improving accessibility.
  • Retain plenty of opportunities for planting and seasonal colour.

Although compact, the garden offered the opportunity to create distinct spaces.

A new patio provides a welcoming seating area, while a gently curved pathway naturally guides you through the garden, adding movement and making the space feel larger than it is.

Large timber sleeper planters introduce height, structure and generous planting areas. By raising the borders, Nigel can continue enjoying gardening while reducing the physical effort required to maintain the plants as the years go by.

Every element was designed to create a garden that remains beautiful, practical and enjoyable for years to come.

  • Premium Patio
  • Curved Garden Path
  • Timber Sleeper Raised Planters
  • Lawn
  • New Planting Areas

The Result

It’s a garden that reflects Nigel’s love of gardening while ensuring it remains practical and enjoyable well into the future.

Stephen’s Design Insight

Good garden design isn’t just about how a garden looks today—it’s about how it supports the people using it in the years ahead.
For Nigel, the raised planting beds weren’t simply a design feature; they were a practical investment in the future. They reduce bending and heavy maintenance while keeping gardening enjoyable. Combined with the flowing pathway and defined seating area, the result is a garden that’s every bit as functional as it is attractive.
