Ron and Sue wanted to future-proof their garden without losing the enjoyment they had always found in it. As passionate gardeners, they no longer wanted the physically demanding jobs such as mowing lawns and maintaining ageing decking. Instead, they wanted a garden that flowed naturally, was easier to care for, and allowed them to spend more time tending their borders and enjoying the space.

The existing garden had become increasingly difficult to maintain. Timber decking had reached the end of its life, the lawn demanded regular upkeep, and the different levels within the garden didn’t feel naturally connected.
Our brief was to:
- Reduce ongoing maintenance.
- Improve the flow through the garden.
- Replace ageing materials with quality, long-lasting alternatives.
- Retain generous planting areas for seasonal colour and interest.

Rather than removing the planting, we focused on removing the maintenance.
The worn timber decking was replaced with premium Indian sandstone, creating an elegant and durable outdoor space. New stone steps were introduced to improve the transition between the garden’s different levels, making movement around the garden more comfortable and intuitive.
We reshaped the borders to provide manageable planting beds that Ron and Sue could continue to enjoy without the burden of maintaining large lawn areas. Finally, the tired grass was replaced with high-quality artificial grass, providing a lush green lawn throughout the year without mowing or ongoing maintenance.

What Our Client Said
“An extremely professional family business. They transformed our garden into something truly amazing. From start to finish, the process and ideas they provided enabled this to happen. Thank you Stephen and Oliver.”
A few months after completion, Sue got back in touch with an update that perfectly summed up the success of the project:
“Thank you. Ron is really enjoying the garden now. It’s so much easier to simply tidy and weed the borders with no grass to cut.”
For us, that’s the greatest measure of success—not just creating a beautiful garden on completion day, but delivering a space that’s still being enjoyed long afterwards.
The Result
The finished garden offers the perfect balance between practicality and personality. The heavy maintenance has been removed, while the planting remains an important feature of the design. The result is a garden that feels connected, inviting and significantly easier to maintain—allowing Ron and Sue to spend their time enjoying the aspects of gardening they love most.
